Airport runway is not for running, warn Fox Creek RCMP

Running with a dog is generally considered a healthy activity.

But RCMP have issued an alert after a runner and pooch were spotted zipping along the airport runway near Fox Creek, about 262 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.

The runner said to have been using the air strip to exercise with the dog was reported to police around 2:30 p.m. on June 11, RCMP said in a Monday news release.

“The Fox Creek RCMP have been unable to identify this individual and are concerned as this type of behaviour can pose a number of safety risks should any incoming aircraft be landing when someone is on the air strip,” said the release from Cpl. Deanna Fontaine, Western Alberta District RCMP media relations officer.

“The Fox Creek RCMP would like to remind the public that the Fox Creek Airport air strip is meant for aircraft take offs and landings only. Should persons frequent this area during an aircraft landing or take off, the consequences can be particularly serious, potentially resulting in loss of life.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Fox Creek RCMP at 780-622-3740 or your local police. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
