Alberta exceeds 2,000 new cases of COVID-19 for second day in a row

For the second day in a row, Alberta reported more than 2,000 new COVID-19 cases.

On Friday, 2,007 new cases were reported and there are currently 21,828 active cases in the province.

Over the last 24 hours, 18,955 tests were completed for a positivity rate of approximately 10 per cent.

There are 649 people hospitalized with COVID-19, an increase of 17 since Thursday. Of those, 152 are in ICU, an increase of one.

Seven more deaths raised the provincial death toll to 2,082.

There were 989 new cases of COVID-19 variants identified Friday. Of the total active cases in the province, 13,440 are variants, or nearly 62 per cent.

As of end-of-day Thursday, 1,562,713 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, or 34,955 doses per 100,000 people. There are 296,290 Albertans fully immunized with two doses.
