Alberta reported 1,315 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday as hospitalizations continue to spike.

There are 465 people hospitalized with the virus, an increase of 34 from Tuesday. Of those, 107 are in intensive care units, an increase of one.

Over the last 24 hours, there were 12,141 COVID-19 tests completed for a positivity rate of 10.8 per cent. The last time Alberta saw new case numbers above 1,300 was on May 13, with 1,468 cases reported.

Across the province, there are 12,290 active cases of COVID-19, an increase of 630.

Eight more deaths raised the provincial death toll to 2,383.

In the Edmonton Zone, which includes the city of Edmonton and surrounding municipalities, there are 3,838 active cases of COVID-19. Of those, 2,647 active cases, or 255 per 100,000 people, are within the city.
