As of press time, Stevenson had a sizable lead over her nearest competitors, Gabrielle Battiste and Adrian Bruff. Former Ward 7 councillor Caterina sat in fifth place.

Stevenson, an urban planner, ran on a campaign promising to bring practical knowledge and experience working for the city and the Right at Home Housing Society to council.

Endorsed by outgoing mayor Don Iveson, Stevenson said Monday night she was grateful for all of her supporters and campaign volunteers, especially as a newcomer without the same name recognition that candidates like Caterina had.

“It’s been a lesson across the city. Edmontonians are watching, and they’re holding their city councillors to account,” said Stevenson, who added that while she shared a lot of values with many other candidates, she heard voters wanted decisive leadership.

“I really focused on staying positive and really focusing on the solutions. I think we all know the challenges that we face and for me it’s just incredibly important to talk about what we can do as a city on city council to strengthen our communities,” she said.
