At around 5:45 a.m. Saturday, west division officers were patrolling a back alley in the area of 152 Street and 102 Avenue where they saw a man under a parked car with a saw.
Police confronted the man and he produced a firearm. A police officer deployed a conductive energy weapon and shortly after the man sustained a gunshot wound.
Paramedics arrived as the officers were performing life saving measures and transported the man to the hospital where he died around 12:40 p.m.
The officers involved had no injuries and based on the evidence at the time had not fired their weapons.
ASIRT has now taken over the investigation and an autopsy is scheduled for July 8.
