The body found in the North Saskatchewan River last week near Terwillegar Park has been identified as the missing 73-year-old woman who was last seen in November.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner confirmed the body to be Carole Byrne and has been deemed non-criminal in nature, police said in a Wednesday news release.

A massive search effort was launched after Byrne was last seen walking away from her home near Lessard Drive and 57 Avenue on Nov. 10. The Edmonton Police Service’s drone team, as well as search and rescue, were called in to search the ravine and forested area with no success.

Her body was discovered on April 22.
