COVID-19: Alberta vaccination total nears Stage 3 benchmark, lottery draw

The day after Premier Jason Kenney announced a COVID-19 vaccination lottery, the province reported 47,176 doses were administered from end of day Saturday.

The “Open for Summer Lottery” will award three $1-million prizes to Albertans who get the jab.

The total number of doses administered now sits at 3,384,026. The first lottery draw will happen when Alberta enters Stage 3 of its reopening plan, which is slated to take place when 70 per cent of Albertans 12 and up have received one jab. On Sunday that number was 68.7 per cent.

On Sunday, the province announced 165 cases of COVID-19. The active cases count dropped to 3,180.

There are 272 people in the hospital due to COVID-19, a drop of 18 from the day prior, and 75 people in ICU, an increase of one.

One additional death reported, a man in his 60s in the Central zone.

The province tallied 25 new cases of the the Delta variant, with most of those cases being in the Calgary zone. There are now 318 cases of the variant.
