Alberta’s top doctor will provide an update on COVID-19 in the province Monday afternoon.
On Sunday, Alberta reported 644 new cases of the virus and 235 cases of variants of concern – both of which have been rising over the past few weeks.
Alberta has more variant cases than any other province. The B.1.1.7 variant that was first found in the United Kingdom has accounted for 3,043 of the province’s 3,068 total variant cases.
Three deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in Alberta on Sunday, bringing the total number of fatalities since the pandemic began to 1,983.
Currently, 277 Albertans are in hospital for the virus, including 63 in intensive care.
