COVID-19: Dr. Deena Hinshaw to provide update Wednesday afternoon

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw is slated to provide an update on COVID-19 in the province Wednesday afternoon.

Vaccine eligibility was expanded by three birth years at 8 a.m. Residents born in 1949, 1950 and 1951, as well as First Nations, Métis and Inuit individuals born in 1964, 1965 and 1966 or earlier can now book appointments online or by calling Health Link 811.

On Tuesday, the province reported 355 new cases of COVID-19 after completing 6,018 tests. Sixty-one new cases of the highly-contagious variants were identified, bringing the number of those active cases to 509. Currently, there are 4,776 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta.

Two hundred and sixty Albertans are in hospital with COVID-19, including 44 in intensive care. Three new deaths were reported on Tuesday, bringing the provincial total throughout the pandemic to 1,952.

Hinshaw will speak at 3:30 p.m.
