An update on Alberta’s vaccine rollout from provincial officials is expected Thursday afternoon.
Premier Jason Kenney, Health Minister Tyler Shandro, and chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw are expected at a news conference at 3:30 p.m. An update on the province’s COVID-19 situation is anticipated.
Alberta entered Stage 2 of the summer re-opening plan today.
As of June 10, indoor entertainment and recreation can open with some attendance caps and restrictions, and restaurants can seat parties with up to six people both indoors and outdoors, and the outdoor gathering cap will increase to 20 people with distancing still in effect.
This phase was to be triggered two weeks after 60 per cent of Albertans 12 and up had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and hospitalizations were below 500 and declining.
As of Wednesday, 67.2 per cent of Albertans in this category had one dose, and 15.7 per cent had two.
Yesterday, Alberta reported 313 new cases of COVID-19 – the highest in a week where less than 300 cases were reported in a single day. Five more people died.
The number of people in hospital and ICU for COVID-19, and the province’s active cases have fallen dramatically over the last several weeks.
By Wednesday, there were 4,204 active cases in Alberta, including 1,114 in the Edmonton Zone. There were 329 in hospital including 83 in ICU.
