One man is in hospital after a car crash in northeast Edmonton that cleaved a vehicle in two.

The Sunday morning collision happened on 153 Avenue just east of 66 Street. A city fire crew came across the crash at 11:08 a.m., spokeswoman Brittany Lewchuk said. They found three badly damaged vehicles including a Volkswagen Sedan resting on a sidewalk and a BMW with its back half severed from its front.

A man was transported to hospital in stable condition, an EMS spokesperson said. Police closed 153 Avenue in both directions.

Postmedia reached out to police for more information but did not hear back.
