Crews are on scene to clean up 1,000 litres of oil that was spilled at a local Jiffy Lube.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) received a 911 call around 2:11 p.m. Wednesday reporting a fuel or oil spill in the area of 164A Avenue and 45 Street.

Brittany Lewchuk, communications advisor with EFRS, said it was reported that a nearby Jiffy Lube poured about 1,000 litres of oil down a drain. The oil had then entered a nearby stormwater pond, Lewchuk added.

EFRS crews, including the hazmat team, arrived on scene at 2:15 p.m. and continue to assist with the cleanup.

Lewchuk said EPCOR is also on scene and Alberta Environment has been notified of the oil spill.
