Fire crews responded to flames at a home under construction Friday morning in northeast Edmonton, continuing a busy week for morning emergency teams in the city.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) received a call at 2:03 a.m. reporting a structure fire near 115 Avenue and 82 Street. Crews arrived a few minutes later to a home under construction fully involved in flames, said EFRS spokesman Kyle Owcharuk. The fire was damaging two neighbouring homes where two pets and two people were rescued. There were no injuries reported and those who were removed from the home are being supported by the Emergency Support Response Team.

The fire was declared under control at 5:23 a.m. and crews remain on scene to ensure it is out. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Morning crews have had to respond to several fires throughout the city this week. On Tuesday morning smoking material improperly thrown out lead to five homes in northeast Edmonton being severely damaged. EFRS has said damages are estimated at $1.2-million.

The next morning a commercial property in central Edmonton caught fire. Crews found smoke protruding from a top floor window. It appears the building was under construction and possibly undergoing renovations.

Last Friday, a fire at an apartment building near 120 Avenue and 80 Street saw crews have to rescue people from the third floor. The cause of that fire is currently undetermined, damages are estimated at $1 million to the structure and $250,000 to contents.
