In a Tuesday news release, RCMP said they received a report at about 3 p.m. Sunday of a possible drowning near the summer village of South View on Lake Isle, about 95 km west of Edmonton.

Police said a preliminary investigation shows the canoe turned over into the water from the wake of a passing motor boat.

About half an hour later, occupants of another boat stopped and helped pull two people out of the water and bring them to shore.

A 64-year old woman from Edmonton survived, but the man was pronounced deceased on scene despite the efforts of emergency crews.

While Evansburg RCMP are investigating the incident, police said they will not be releasing the man’s and woman’s names.
