Edmonton police issued separate but similar releases in 2018 and 2015 regarding Larsen’s release into the community
City police has issued a public warning over the release of a convicted sexual offender into the community.
Edmonton police said they have reasonable grounds to believe Cyle Larsen, 29, will commit another sexual offence against someone under the age of 16 while in the community, an EPS news release said Monday.
Police issued the warning saying Larsen was recently released form the Edmonton Remand Centre and will be residing in the community, bound by a probation order and monitored by the Edmonton Probation Office. EPS said Larsen has a history “opportunistic offending” against children known to him and he has shown that he will groom or lure victims if he has the chance.
Edmonton police have issued several public warnings regarding Larsen’s release into the community in the past decade. They issued separate but similar releases in 2018 and 2015.
Larsen must report to a probation supervisor immediately upon his release and thereafter as determined by his supervisor as part of his probation conditions. He will live at an approved residence under a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew and must receive permission to move his home address. He will also have to attend any counseling his supervisor directs him to take and must agree to take any medications directed to him.
He cannot purchase, consume or possess alcohol or drugs and cannot be in possession of or view images of children. Police said, he cannot possess any cellphones that are not pre-approved. If a cellphone is approved, he cannot use the internet to access social media.
Police said Larsen cannot enter into any sexual, intimate or interpersonal social relationship until that person is disclosed to his supervisor. He cannot have a relationship with the parent of children under the age of 16. He cannot contact or communicate with anyone under the age of 16 and cannot be within 100 metres of a place where people under the age of 16 are likely to gather.
Anyone with knowledge of any potential breaches of these conditions is asked to call EPS.
Larsen is described as being five-feet-six inches in height weighing 119 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair.
