Constable Joseph Spear, an EPS member with 22 years of service, is facing two criminal charges in connection to a complaint brought to police in 2020, according to a Tuesday release from police. It was alleged that Spear commissioned an affidavit that bore a forged signature. An internal investigation by the EPS professional standards branch was launched.
The matter was referred to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) when the internal investigation was complete. ACPS recommended charges be laid.
Spear remains on active duty, in a non-front-line role pending the outcome of the court proceedings.
