EPS implemented its vaccination protocol on Oct. 18, at which point staff had to choose one of three options — indicate that they are fully vaccinated or intend to be by Nov. 30, participate in rapid COVID-19 testing at their own expense or go on a leave without pay.

EPS said 3.8 per cent of its employees opted for rapid testing and 0.1 per cent — four employees — chose to take a leave without pay.

Seventeen employees have yet to complete the mandatory survey indicating their choice.

EPS spokeswoman Cheryl Sheppard said employees who cannot be vaccinated or refuse to take part in rapid testing due to a protected characteristic, such as religious beliefs, are being “reasonably accommodated on an individual basis.”
