Sunday morning temperatures at the Edmonton Blatchford station measured 7 C with 7 km/h winds out of the southwest.
March is about to throw quite the hissy fit, not leaving us without a fight. The impending stormy doom prompted forecasters to issue the following weather alert just before 6 a.m. Sunday:
Special weather statement in effect for:
- City of Edmonton – St. Albert – Sherwood Park
Active spring weather expected in Alberta today through Monday.
A potent cold front will bring a band of active weather through Alberta beginning this afternoon. Rain showers, flurries and weak thunderstorms along with strong winds will move from northwest to southeast across the province. Bursts of heavy snow accompanied by strong winds will result in quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
Western Alberta will be affected by late morning, while the Edmonton metropolitan region will be affected late Sunday afternoon.
Scattered flurries and winds gusting in the 70 to 90 km/h range will continue until Monday morning.
Weather alerts have already been issued for several regions in Alberta in advance of this storm and may be expanded as this system develops.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ABstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ABStorm.
So there you have it, we’ve been warned.
Stay off the roads, batten down the hatches, gather those patio cushions and other lightweight springy things any of you inadvertently teased the weather gods with, and LOSE the shorts already. Too soon.
