A mix of sun and cloud. Clearing late this afternoon. High 17.
I know I’m not alone when I say that yesterday’s news was not ideal. Homeschooling two children, while both parents are working full-time from home, will be a challenge. Though, I knew it was coming I was surprised by the wave of emotions that came with hearing it out loud. Thankfully it’s will only be for two weeks and hopefully, we can get back to class for the end of the school year.
For now, though it is more fun to talk about wine and I love to talk about Canadian wine. Internationally we are still making a name for ourselves. Most larger markets look at us as producers of Icewine and nothing more, which is not the case. We may still be finding our voice but in doing so we are producing some amazing wines. There are some incredibly talented producers out there and today I want to showcase one that I found the other day.
The Little Engine, Silver Chardonnay was such a great find. Made in Penticton, B.C. this winery is making some delicious wines! Handpicked grapes fermented in cool conditions to preserve the aromatic quality of the wine. It is aged in a combination of old oak and stainless steel tanks. Not an oaky and buttery Chardonnay but a lighter more fruity approach to the grape, which on a warm day was really lovely. Notes of green apple, cooked pear and a nice punch of citrus with a hint of minerality to give it a bit of complexity. Though it spends six months on the lees with batonnage giving the wine some richness on the palate which is balanced with refreshing acidity. This wine was a delightful balance of freshness and texture.
