A look at today’s Edmonton weather by Environment Canada.
Last week I received a couple really fun emails from folks who enjoyed a little wine Wednesday fun so I thought I would keep it up.
This Wednesday I want to highlight a cool wine I tried this weekend. (No, I don’t drink wine every Wednesday) It is a Spanish red from Baron de Ley. They have a cool line called Varietal which showcases indigenous grapes from the Rioja region. With reds from Rioja, they are often blends and many times they include some indigenous varieties we don’t necessarily know much about here.
This wine was made up of 100 per cent Maturana. The wine was deep ruby in colour and full of black fruits like blackberry compote and black currant. Aromas of cocoa, tobacco and a pleasant minerality added to the complexity of the wine. It was medium to full-bodied, dry and had a nicely uplifting acidity which helped to lighten it on the pallet. Overall, for my taste, a really great wine that goes well with grilled red meats.
It’s much more fun for me to chat about wine than it is to have to think about the weather today. To go from 19 degrees as the daytime high to the potential for flurries overnight? It’s too much for my brain to think about right now. So I’ll think about wine! Let me know what some of your go to’s are for wine Wednesday! I love learning about new varieties and fun wines to try.
