An elderly man is dead following a fire at a seniors’ apartment complex in Edson early Tuesday morning.

At about 12:16 a.m., Edson RCMP along with the Edson Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a seniors’ apartment complex on 5 Avenue in the town of Edson.
The building was evacuated and and residents were provided shelter at local venues.
The fire was contained to one unit on the third floor, however, an elderly man was found dead inside the unit.
All other tenants were accounted for and no other injuries from the fire were reported.
RCMP said a tentative identification of the man has been done and an autopsy will take place to confirm his identity. The next-of-kin have been notified.
The cause of the fire has been determined to be not suspicious and the investigation into the fire continues.
