Emergency crews are battling flames and smoke at a downtown commercial building.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) received a call at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, reporting a fire near 109 Street and 107 Avenue, said EFRS spokeswoman Brittany Lewchuk.

A total of six Crews, about 30 firefighters, arrived on scene within three minutes to flames and smoke protruding from a top floor window. EFRS is not reporting any injuries.

“The building appears to be abandoned and possibly under renovation as floors were missing. It was a challenge for our firefighters to gain access to the building given the heavy boarding up of access points,” said Lewchuk in an email.

Edmonton police have also responded to assist with traffic in the area.
