A firefighter was taken to hospital after falling while fighting a fire at an inner-city home early Monday morning.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) received a call at 4:24 a.m. reporting a structure fire in a two-storey home under construction. Crews arrived at the home at 114 Avenue and 94 Street at 4:27 a.m.
EFRS said one of its firefighters fell when the second floor of the building collapsed. The firefighter was able to self-rescue and was taken to hospital as a “precaution.”
The fire was considered under control at 5:02 a.m. and declared out at 6:07 a.m.
EFRS said the initial damage estimate is $200,000 and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
