First-degree murder charges have been laid after a 17-year-old girl was fatally stabbed in a Leduc school Monday morning.

Court records show Dylan Pountney made a brief appearance in Edmonton provincial court Tuesday morning. RCMP arrested the 19-year-old in a Leduc subdivision after Jennifer Louise Winkler was stabbed to death Monday at Christ the King Catholic High School.

A Go Fund Me was set up Monday to cover Winkler’s funeral costs.

First-degree murder charges typically indicate investigators believe the killing was planned and deliberate.
