Members of GraceLife Church will be allowed to worship at its Parkland County building by Canada Day.
Authorities shuttered the church in April after it openly flouted COVID-19 rules for months. Alberta Health Services spokesman Kerry Williamson said Tuesday possession of premises will be returned to the church, fencing will be removed, and outstanding health orders targeting the facility will be rescinded on July 1.
“As of July 1, 2021, all AHS Executive Officer Orders issued in connection with CMOH restrictions will be rescinded, as they are based on CMOH Orders which will themselves be rescinded,” he said.
Pastor James Coates and GraceLife Church still face outstanding charges.
Earlier this month, a judge threw out an application from Coates to have enforcement actions against his church deemed unconstitutional.
Coates previously spent 35 days in jail for refusing to follow bail conditions that he follow rules around COVID-19.
