Alberta’s top doctor will provide an update on COVID-19 in the province Thursday afternoon.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. press conference.
On Wednesday, the province reported 1,699 new COVID-19 cases – the highest single-day increase since Dec. 13. Of them, 1,332 were the highly-infectious variants of concern, a new one-day record for the province.
COVID-19 variant cases make up nearly 60 per cent of Alberta’s 18,873 active cases.
The province’s COVID-19 data website was experiencing technical difficulties on Wednesday, and as a result no updated information was provided on deaths, hospitalizations, intensive-care stays, or active cases for each health zone.
Those details are expected to be released along with Thursday’s data.
