Alberta’s top doctor is slated to give an update on COVID-19 Thursday afternoon.
The 3:30 p.m. press conference will be Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw’s first since new COVID-19 restrictions were announced.
Under the new public health measures, K-12 students will move to online learning for two weeks starting Friday. Patios and personal services such as salons must close by 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
On Wednesday – the same day new caps on outdoor gatherings, places of worship and retail stories took effect – Alberta reported 2,271 new infections, bringing the total number of active cases to a new record of 24,156, and three additional deaths. There are 666 COVID-19 patients in hospital, including 146 in intensive care.
Albertans born between 1982 and 1991 can now book appointments through the Alberta Health Services website, 811 phone line or participating pharmacies. Those born between 1992 and 2009 can book beginning Monday at 8 a.m.
