Just before 3 a.m., a Mercedes E320 was travelling northbound on Rabbit Hill Road approaching MacTaggart Drive when the driver lost control and struck a light pole, Edmonton police said in a morning news release.

The rear passenger, a 20-year-old man, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead by emergency crews on scene. A 19-year-old man, the driver of the vehicle, and a 21-year-old male front passenger were transported to hospital for precautionary reasons.

Investigators believe speed was a factor in the fatal collision and alcohol may have also been involved as the major collision unit continues to investigate.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact police at 780-423-4567.
