[SPOILERS AHEAD]
In what is now becoming a tradition on The Mandalorian, Jon Favreau and his film collective have dropped the mystery name of a major character on our laps, totally out of the blue.
So is “Grogu” the end of all of our “Baby Yoda” talk? Not, probably.
But way more importantly, how awesome is the name Grogu?!? A sweet nod to Frank Oz — who did the voice of both OG Yoda and Grover — our little green friend’s newly-revealed monicker happened in a moment of extreme fan service in an episode which perfectly balanced looking back and moving forward.
In the wake of Rosario Dawson proving she was born to play Ahsoka Tano, we were happily delivered mentions of Yoda; Anakin Skywalker as child-killer; and even the Expanded Universe’s art-collecting villain Grand Admiral Thrawn, all while creating a captivating, burned-down-forest world, giving us a Beskar steel spear with which to kill some dragons, and a truly memorable henchman named Lang — played by none other than Michael Biehn of The Terminator and Aliens.

Summoning Thrawn brings up some interesting history for fans of the Rebels cartoon, but it also complicates Mando Din Djarin’s world. Imagine for a second Thrawn and Moff Gideon are not part of the same post-Empire, split-off faction. Right? Raising questions while standing on solid Star Wars roots — very much including Akira Kurosawa’s tutelage here — is what keeps us flipping out on the hook.
Anyway, Nathan Martin and Fish Griwkowsky get all mushy about Chapter 13: The Jedi — hope you enjoy! GROGU!!!!!
