Motorist killed in collision with moose on Highway 16

A man has died after colliding with a moose on Highway 16 near Evansburg, early Tuesday morning.

Evansburg RCMP, AHS ground ambulance, Parkland County Fire Services and STARS air ambulance responded to a collision that occurred on Highway 16 west, at Range Road 55, before 6 a.m., on Tuesday morning. Preliminary investigation supports the vehicle collided with a moose.

The 21-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle sustained life threatening injuries and was transported via STARS to an Edmonton-area hospital. The driver later succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital.

The moose was found deceased a few hundred metres away from the collision.

Evansburg RCMP expressed their condolences to the family and friends impacted by the tragedy.
