One person was transported to hospital after a small plane crashed shortly after take off at an airport northeast of Edmonton.
The plane went down early Saturday afternoon about 200 metres from the runway at Warren Thomas Aerodrome in Josephburg, said Bruce Patterson, acting deputy chief with Strathcona County Emergency Services.
He did not know the type of plane but said it was “possibly an ultralight.” Two people were on board, both of whom were able to climb out of the aircraft. One was rushed to hospital after an assessment on scene.
The cause of the crash was under investigation and Transport Canada has been notified, said RCMP Cpl. Deanna Fontaine. Strathcona County RCMP were called to the scene at 2:41 p.m.
Josephburg is 50 km northeast of Edmonton and is home to a 4,500-foot runway.
