Fire crews are investigating an overnight blaze in a Sherwood Park strip mall causing damage to at least six businesses.
Strathcona County RCMP and fire services responded to The Chopped Leaf at Sherwood Centre shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday to find it fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews were still on scene Saturday morning putting out hot spots.
The area was blocked off to allow fire investigators to keep investigating. The origin of the fire is unknown, RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Deanna Fontaine said in an early morning news release.
Traffic restrictions are in place on Sherwood Drive between Wye Road and Fir Street until the investigation is complete. Motorists are asked to avoid these areas.
Along with The Chopped Leaf, the fire has caused damage to the adjoining businesses of KFC, Little Caesars, Klee Boutique, Dr. Bernstein Clinic and Great Clips. Some other adjacent structures may have been damaged as well, Fontaine said.
Anyone with information related to the fire or dash-cam footage in the area between midnight and 12:35 a.m. is asked to call Strathcona County RCMP at 780-467-7741.
