RCMP were called to the hangar around 11 a.m. A preliminary investigation revealed the pilot was practising “high-speed taxis,” going east and west on the runway. During one attempt, the plane caught air, resulting in the nose of the plane hitting the hangar.
The pilot and lone occupant, a 78-year-old man from Victoria, B.C., was taken by ambulance to an Edmonton-area hospital with serious, non life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Police said property damage to the ultralight aircraft and hangar are still being assessed.
The investigation is ongoing.
