RCMP are continuing to investigate photos posted online showing what appears to be the crosshairs of a rifle aimed at officers who were attending the Whistle Stop Cafe protests near Mirror, AB, about 150 kilometres south of Edmonton, last weekend.
The Whistle Stop Cafe has been a vocal opponent to ongoing provincial public health measures that restrict Alberta restaurants from opening to dine-in services. The restaurant has continued to open for months in defiance.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) said last Wednesday that it had closed the cafe after they received over 400 complaints about the business since January. The Court of Queen’s Bench pre-emptively granted an injunction against the planned protest, prohibiting the owner and supporters from promoting, organizing or attending the anti-lockdown rally. AHS said legal action would be taken against individuals who opposed the injunction.

The rally carried on regardless outside the cafe on Saturday as hundreds gathered outside in the rain for the Save Alberta Campout Protest. RCMP attended the scene and handed out tickets to several attendees and arrested one person at the scene.
The photos appearing to target officers were posted online the same day.
On Thursday, polices said they are continuing to investigate the photos to determine if they are a credible threat or an intimidation tactic against officers.
RCMP are asking anyone with information regarding the photos to contact them at 780-890-2645. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
