Record-high COVID-19 patients in Alberta's ICUs for a second day

For the second day in a row, a record-high number of COVID-19 patients were being treated in Alberta’s ICUs on Tuesday.

There were 212 people sickened by the novel coronavirus needing intensive care — occupying 71 per cent of Alberta’s ICU beds — up 10 from Monday afternoon, the province’s public data shows. Nineteen more people are being treated for COVID-19 in hospital than the day before; 822 overall, including those in ICU.

Another nine COVID-19 deaths were reported since Monday. This deadly disease has killed 2,471 Albertans in total.

New infections and active cases are still rising rapidly in Alberta. Testing confirmed another 1,434 cases on Monday and active cases have jumped to 18,265.

The Edmonton area has the highest number of cases than any other health zone at 5,323, followed by the Calgary area at 5,136.
