St. Albert firefighters battle blaze at seniors care facility

Firefighters in St. Albert are battling a blaze at a seniors care facility that is sending smoke and flames dozens of feet in the air.

The fire Thursday night is at Citadel Mews located at 15 Erin Ridge Rd. in north St. Albert. Multiple fire trucks and crews are on scene.

Police have blocked off roadways surrounding the facility and are redirecting traffic.

Citadel Village consists of 95 independent and supportive living units in Citadel Mews West, 81 independent living units in Citadel Mews East, and 125 long-term care beds in the Citadel Care Centre, according to the company’s website.

It is not clear how many of the residents were evacuated.
