Alberta RCMP laid a second-degree murder charge in connection to the murder of a Smokey Lake, Alta. woman earlier this month.

Around 6:20 p.m. on Oct. 15, Smokey Lake RCMP responded to a call to assist Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with a possible sudden death.
Officers attended a residence in Mons Lake, in Smoky Lake County, where EMS declared the victim, Jennifer Degenhardt, dead at the scene.
Mounties said the death was being investigated as “suspicious” at the time.
The suspect and Degenhardt were known to each other and the incident is believed to have been isolated and targeted, according to RCMP.
Bernadine Nowlan of Fort Saskatchewan was arrested on Oct. 22 in connection to the death and has been charged with second-degree murder.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court on Oct. 28.
