Three north Edmonton homes lost in blaze, two people taken to hospital with burns

Three homes have been destroyed and two people have been taken to hospital with burns following a massive fire on the north side of Edmonton Friday afternoon.

Firefighters received a call reporting a garage fire near 85 Street and 179 Ave just after 1:30 p.m. Fire crews were on scene within five minutes and discovered three garages on fire. Additional units were called in for a total of 11 to combat the blaze. Neighbouring homes were evacuated with everyone getting out safely, fire officials said.

Two people were assessed on scene by paramedics and transported to hospital for treatment of burns.

Fire officials say three homes are a total loss and a garage was heavily damaged. Four other buildings suffered exterior heat damage to the siding.

The investigation is ongoing.
