monolith: More fittingly online pandemic content comes to us from Tia Ashley Kushniruk and Mile Zero Dance. The 21-minute, multi-screen film takes an impressionistic look at how women are exploited by powerful figures, often under the guise of good intentions. “I would say that this work is a reflection of the abuse and trauma I have experienced within dance as an institution,” says Kushniruk. “This piece was borne out of a necessity from those experiences to describe and challenge those in power. But, I also wanted to articulate it in a way that is not overt and high stakes — but rather, abstract and ridiculous.” Killer industrial soundtrack, too.
