Macromareal (a rising tide lifts all boats): In conjunction with the nautically-vibed art show by Sydney Lancaster and Scott Smallwood inside, musicians will be moving around the neighbourhood in and around the new SNAP space performing Macromareal Prelude: In Fog and Storm and Sunshine.

You can get a taste of what this ghostly electronic/acoustic music will sound like at soundcloud.com/scottsmallwood. The entire work is based on two Nova Scotia art residencies, where the tides of the Bay of Fundy loomed large and eternal. The gallery is open Tuesdays through Saturdays by appointment, but this specific musical event happens outdoor and in-person Saturday only!

Days of Heaven (1978): Terrence Malick’s incredibly beautiful follow-up to Badlands feels more grown up and real, though both are wonderful. Set in 1916, hot-tempered steelworker Bill (Richard Gere) flees to Texas with his sister Linda (Linda Manz) and girlfriend Abby (Brooke Adams) after fatally erupting at his boss in Chicago.

One cool detail: when the film wasn’t coming together, Malick had Manz watch the film and narrate on the fly, recording it — so it’s a powerful, early example of a young female given an unscripted voice in American cinema, utterly authentic. The actor just died of cancer in August, filmed in Alberta — so this screening heavily recommended.
