Jr. Gone Wild: If you haven’t been up to the North Country Campground yet this summer, you could hardly find a better reason than this: Edmonton county-rock legends Jr. Gone Wild are playing Saturday night, the Borch Brothers also hitting the Shady Grove stage! Up there are food vendors, an edible food and medicine walk and — yes there is — a crystal wand workshop. Up by Driftpile, AB, there’s a map at the site listed below. And, ps, there’s another party next weekend if you can’t make this one, so do yourself a big favour and get out of town!

The Green Knight (2021): In this definitely not-sequel to Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the brilliant David Lowery (St. Nick; A Ghost Story) takes a spin on Arthurian legend. Dev Patel stars as one of the Knights of the Round Table, Sir Gawain, in a stylish story based on a 14th-century poem. The critics seem pretty thrilled with this one, and given Lowery’s work it’s going to be bizarre and unforgettable.

Saturday morning cartoons: OK, we are officially in a golden age of TV animation. Last week I was lukewarm on Marvel’s What If…? But this week’s, What If T’Challa Became a Star Lord, was utterly magnificent multiversing, including the alternate-reality Black Panther he simply talks Thanos out of destroying half of life in the universe. Meanwhile, Star Trek fans will be pausing every five minutes as the Lower Decks, USS Cerritos crew encounters a Collector, whose loot includes Kahless’, uh, mating helmet and a giant Spock skeleton from the animated series (not to mention an all-bones Lincoln). I changed my mind: do yourself a big favour and stay at home!
