2021 Oscar Nominated Shorts: For all of April, the Edmonton International Film Fest is presenting three programs of Oscar-nominated short films in three categories: animation, live action and documentary. EIFF producer Kerrie Long is especially excited about the inclusion of If Anything Happens I Love You, which won at EIFF 2020, making it Oscar-eligible, and it’s now nominated. You can watch any of the three programs on a multitude of devices, see instructions when you pick up your pass and get ready to open your eyes to a wider world of storytelling.

The Boys Are Back at It: Looking delightfully ever-scruffier, the Road Hammers have an energetic new party anthem and accompanying video, as ever in modern country music, making precise statements of identity through familiar signifiers: “We ride steel horses, roll in with the outlaw crowd, drink all the whiskey, smoke all the smoke like a long-haired batch of desperados.” If this sounds like you, this one is going to have you pounding your fist in the air as we get ripped and ready for, what was that again? Oh, right: “the best summer ever,” haha.

Invincible: Better than Spider-Man: Far From Home, better than ten Justice League Snyder Cuts, Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s superhero epic Invincible is now five animated episodes in and, happy to report, is totally delivering the promise of one of the greatest comic series in history’s amazing blend of heartfelt earnestness mixed with total, interplanetary mayhem and gore. Taking it a step further than the story of a young man finally getting his superpowers with loads of awesome contemporary music and a jaw-dropping voice cast including Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons and Mahershala Ali, just watch this one, trust me. The best parts of the MCU owes much to Invincible, all aboard!
