Trade speculation: Jamie Oleksiak to the Edmonton Oilers? Does it make sense?

Article content

This in from Jimmy Hayes of the Missin Curfew podcast, news that the Edmonton Oilers might be interested in acquiring Jamie Oleksiak of the Dallas Stars: Hearing Jamie Oleksiak to the Edmonton Oilers.”

Added ESPN’s Emily Kaplan: “Defensemen to keep an eye on today: Dmitry Kulikov (NJD), Michael Del Zotto (CBJ) and Jamie Oleksiak (DAL). As of yesterday, I heard Dallas was still undecided on whether to move Oleksiak or not, so that’s a situation to watch.”

And the Athletic’s Jonathan Willis: :At this point, I’d say a good deadline for the Oilers would involve grabbing the right CR at a low price (Ryan, maybe Sutter, not Glendening). The LW market took a big hit yesterday and an LD significantly better than what they have will only come at a dear cost.”

And TSN’s Ryan Rishaug: “I think it’ll be a quieter deadline for the Oilers. That’s what I keep hearing out of there. It’s going to be fairly quiet.”

The core pieces are all there but Edmonton is trying to supplement them with a left-winger, a left-shot d-man and a right-handed centre, Rishaug said.
