Two dead following crash on Highway 21 east of Edmonton

Two men are dead following a collision with a gravel truck along Highway 21 east of Edmonton on Wednesday.

RCMP said in a Thursday news release that police responded to a collision along the highway near Township Road 534 in Strathcona County just after 3 p.m. Police said it appears a vehicle was attempting to cross the highway from the road when it was struck by a gravel truck travelling southbound.

The 36-year-old man from Edmonton, who was the passenger in the vehicle struck, died at the scene. The 73-year-old man, also from Edmonton, was transported to hospital where he later died. The driver of the gravel truck wasn’t injured.

RCMP continue to investigate but will not be releasing the names of the two men and no further updates are expected.
