Alberta Premier Jason Kenney is one step closer to an early leadership review now that more than a quarter of United Conservative Party (UCP) constituency associations are asking for one.

In a letter to UCP president Ryan Becker, 22 of the party’s constituency association presidents said they have passed motions demanding a special general meeting in the next three months to conduct a leadership review of Kenney.

According to the letter, released publicly on Monday, the party’s bylaws require more than a quarter of constituency associations to trigger the early review.

UCP constituency association presidents are meeting Monday morning to discuss their next steps.
