A woman is dead and a child is in hospital after a fatal collision in Sturgeon County early Sunday morning.

Morinville RCMP responded to a two vehicle, head-on collision at approximately 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 28 and Sturgeon Road. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, according to RCMP.
The woman, who was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee, died from her injuries shortly after the crash, while a child passenger in the Jeep was injured and taken to Stollery Children’s Hospital by STARS air ambulance, RCMP said in a news release.
An adult male driving a Ford F-150 was also taken to hospital with unknown injuries.
Morinville RCMP and a RCMP collision reconstructionist continue to investigate.
