Mounties said late Monday the 26-year-old driver, from Ponoka, died after a crash at Matejka Road and Highway 2A near Ponoka. The woman was the only person in the vehicle, police say.

Officers were called around 3:45 p.m. Ponoka RCMP, paramedics, fire and CP Rail Police also attended.

Contacted late Monday, police couldn’t confirm other details about the crash.

The fatal collision comes a day after a woman was killed and a child was seriously injured in a crash involving a train in Wetaskiwin county, near Highway 2A and Township Road 470, on Sunday afternoon.

In that crash, police said an SUV was crossing the tracks, west on Township Road 470, when it was hit by a train.

Police are asking any potential witnesses in Monday’s crash to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
